thin edge new music collective
About

The Thin Edge New Music Collective believes that contemporary music is a powerful medium which has the ability to comment and reflect on modern society in a unique and poignant way. We recognize that the broad range of musical idioms which new music encompasses functions as an important touchstone for contemporary life and as such are passionately dedicated to supporting our peers through commissions and performance. Ultimately we aspire to bring innovative and challenging 20th and 21st century music to audiences both existing and as yet untapped.

Founded in September of 2011 by pianist Cheryl Duvall and violinist Ilana Waniuk, The Thin Edge's inaugural season kicked off in February of 2012 with an artistic residency in collaboration with Toronto composer Tova Kardonne at the Banff Centre and concluded with "Premieres" An evening of firsts: 5 newly composed works by emerging Canadian composers: Margaret Ashburner, Aura Giles, Tova Kardonne, August Murphy-King, and Nick Storring. Highlights from our current season include the completion of a Banff residency in Jan 2013 in preparation for our debut Canadian tour, Keys, Wind and Strings featuring guest artists German accordionist Olivia Steimel and Montreal-based composer/performer Solomiya Moroz. We are very excited to announce that in July, Keys, Wind and Strings will be featured as ensemble in residence at the soundSCAPE festival of new music in Maccagno,Italy.
